Credit Repair Questions - FAQs

What is credit and how does it work?

Credit refers to money that a person is allowed to borrow. This can be money loaned from a financial institution, such as bank loan, a car lease, a home mortgage, credit cards, department store credit cards, and so on. A person's credit history refers to their history of using money and other forms of credit. This includes a person's history of paying utility bills, rent, interest and principle on loans, and other financial responsibilities.

Who sees my credit information?

There are a number of people and institutions that can request a 'credit check' on an individual, including lending institutions, landlords, employers, and credit card companies.

Can I see my credit history/information?

Yes. Every individual has the right to request copies of their credit reports from the three primary Credit Reporting Agencies. Find the contact information below.

Can my credit be repaired?

Everyone's credit can be repaired. If there is inaccurate information contained on your credit report, it can be disputed and corrected. Those who have negative, but accurate, information on their credit reports can repair their credit rating over time, by paying off debt and bills in a timely fashion and ensuring that they keep all payments and obligations in check. How to fix credit scores depends greatly on the items that must be addressed.

How does a company fix my credit?

A reputable credit repair company will follow a process in repairing credit. Read through our credit repair programs page to understand what this process should include. How to repair your credit report will depend on the details and items that need to addressed. Every client's needs should be individually assessed.

How long does it take to repair my credit?

Typically, it will take between 60-120 days. The amount of time it takes depends greatly on the credit report in question and the steps required to address every different situation.

What are the costs of repairing my credit?

Compared to the cost of having bad credit, very little. Bad credit affects many aspects of a person's life, both at present and in the future. Those with a bad credit rating pay more for everything, whether it be a mortgage, car lease, furniture, or credit itself. A bad credit rating means you pay higher interest because you are a greater risk to a lending institution than a person with a good credit history. See our credit repair costs page for full details of the price of credit repair services.

Where do I get my credit reports?

You can request copies of your credit reports from the three Credit Repair Agencies. However, the best way to access all three of your credit reports is through a new program introduced by the government that provides a central location through which individuals can request copies for free once annually. Learn how to request your copies by visiting the FTC's free credit reports page.

You can also request copies from the three agencies listed below, however, understand that they will charge you for these copies.
